Bruce Compton announces resignation
February 22, 2010
Dear friends,
After working with many of you for the last eight years to improve the access to quality healthcare in the developing world, I wish to inform you of my resignation as President and CEO of Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach effective March 15, 2010. Knowing that Mission Outreach is well positioned for the future, and given the unique opportunity to promote international outreach nation wide, I have accepted a position as Senior Director-International Outreach with the Catholic Health Association of the United States (St. Louis, MO).
Over the past eight years, Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach’s humble beginning in a garage at the Motherhouse of the Hospital Sisters has flourished into a recognized organization providing aid to hundreds of thousands of our brothers and sisters around the world. Our work has been successful because of relationships with people just like you that have been established on a local, national and international basis. Together we have increased access to quality healthcare in more than 50 countries, distributed more than $18 million of medical equipment and supplies to healthcare institutions around the world, and prevented over 3 million pounds of useable surplus from ending up in landfills and salvage yards in the United States.
Our work in support of Haiti since the earthquake is proof of the dedication of our partners, staff, volunteers, and benefactors. In the last 45 days, Mission Outreach has provided humanitarian aid valued at more than $2.3 million, strengthened its position with many of our long-term partners and engaged in new partnerships that will be instrumental in the continued success of the operations.
The Sisters have begun a formal process to recruit a new President and CEO for Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach. Meanwhile, a separate announcement will follow naming an individual to manage the operations in the interim.
Thank you for your support in my work for Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach. It is because of your generous spirit that we have found success in making a difference and brought true meaning to our motto of being a healing presence for the life of the world. As I continue my journey to support those in need around the world, Mission Outreach will always be close to my heart.
Peace,

Bruce
