Success found through many hands
Our work is not something we can take full credit for. Instead, we're thrilled of the ways volunteers accept the invitation to assist in fund raising, sorting of supplies, testing of equipment, and countless other ways of support. We are very honored to salute the efforts of many hands in this story from Ecuador.
This feedback from Quito, Ecuador reassures us of our process and the way in which we provide exactly the medical equipment and supplies that are requested.
"It was glaringly obvious which pieces of equipment came from the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach/TriMedx Foundation container. The equipment arrived in good condition and was in good working order. It was heartbreaking to see equipment that did not come from us - realizing all the time and money spent on a piece of equipment that was not useable and should have never been sent," explained Jerry Anderson, TriMedx biomedical engineer, trainer, and Foudation volunteer for Tierra Nueva. Pictured left is an example of how the TriMedx volunteers trained the staff in Quito with the new equipment.
The people of Quito now have improved access to medical technology and, ultimately, improved healthcare services. "We are so happy and grateful to you for all your efforts and generosity. This equipment is just what we needed and will work out perfectly in our hospital. God bless you," said Patricia Jarrin, MD, Coodinadora Alianzas, Fundacion Tierra Neuva.
Background on this endeavor
In these tough economic times it was great to hear some positive news on how the people of Nokomis, IL, along with their friends and families from around the county and state, raised money that impacted the world in a good way. Despite real concerns and worries today in their backyard, they recognized that there are others whose poverty is a life-long, daily concern. Unfortunately, these needy people are even more in jeopardy because of the world-wide financial crisis.
Bravo to our friends in Nokomis whose generosity for their "Bridge the Gap” campaign, coordinated through the Nokomis Ministerial Alliance, was an enormous success. Their donation to Mission Outreach of $27,000 assisted in the shipping of medical equipment and supplies to Quito, Ecuador.
Next came the volunteers: some adults and youth who spent two days volunteering with us. The team included 12 youth ranging from Grades 7-11 as well as four adults from Nokomis.
Their time with us including sorting medical supplies along with other miscellaneous supplies. Interestingly, what enhanced their visit was that months ago they, and countless others in their community, raised the $27,000 toward the funding of a container shipped to Quito. This container was filled with medical equipment and supplies for the patients at the Instituto Medico of Tierra Nueva.
And how could we forgot our friends at TriMedx! These experts in biomedical technology spent several days with us verifying that our donated medical equipment is in good working condition and compatible for its destination. What's even more unique is that a team from TriMedx were able to travel to Quito and assist in the training of personnel in operating the new equipment. Best of all, their feedback to us gave reassurance to our work.
We at Mission Outreach are humbled...we can simply say, thank you.
