Volunteer Opportunities

"Whether a person has a medical background or not, each volunteer feels a personal sense of reward by adding to Mission Outreach's purpose: to help third world countries receive much-needed medical equipment and supplies."
                                                                                  Brenda Underwood, volunteer

Volunteerism at Mission Outreach is rewarding work and we invite you to join us. We can always use extra hands – whether you are a student needing volunteer hours, the leader of a church group looking for a mission-focused cause to support, or an individual who simply wishes to give back in a meaningful way.

Although a medical background is beneficial, the majority of our Mission Outreach volunteers have little to no medical training. If you do possess special skills and training, please inform the volunteer associate prior to your volunteer experience.

*Volunteer Opportunities:

1st Sort: Sorting supplies by medical category, counting and packaging supplies and lifting boxes up to 25 lbs.

(example:  separating gloves from tubing, patient gowns, suture, etc.)

2nd Sort: Focusing on one medical category and sorting that category into detail, counting and packaging supplies, lifting up to 25 lbs.

(example:  sorting gloves by size, separating by latex + latex-free, etc.)

Data Entry: Mission Outreach is in great need of volunteers to enter medical supplies into the online inventory system. These volunteers must demonstrate basic computer skills, attention to detail, and lift boxes up to 25 lbs.

Warehouse: Volunteers occasionally help prepare shipments and load containers for distribution as needed.

Additional opportunities:
• Assisting drivers with equipment pick-ups
• Testing & repairing medical equipment
• Assisting with fund-raising and event planning

*All volunteers must be at least 13 years of age. To ensure maximum safety, children under age 13 are not allowed on the premises, even if they are not planning to volunteer.

*Some sit-down jobs are available, please contact the volunteer associate in advance for more information.

As a volunteer, you will not only be helping a fantastic and dynamic nonprofit organization with very important work, but you will be learning what it truly means to be green and become part of the environmental and social justice movement.

“What we are doing through Mission Outreach is not new for the Hospital Sisters. Rather it is a more visible symbol of our long missionary spirit that is the foundation of our ministry – helping those in need throughout the world. It is our goal that those who join us in these efforts are reminded that every Christian is called to continue the healing ministry of Jesus” - Sister Joan Winkler
